Veneers are tooth shaped, wafer thin shells made using highly durable porcelain material. They are placed on the front surface of your teeth to cover imperfections and to enhance the appearance of your smile. Veneers are custom-made according to the shape and color of your natural teeth.
Veneers can serve as an alternative to crowns in many cases and can completely reshape your teeth and smile by treating a number of dental conditions such as:
- Misshapen teeth
- Severely stained or discolored teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Teeth that are too small or large
- Chipped or worn teeth
- Unwanted or uneven spaces between the teeth.
The placement of porcelain veneers on your teeth is a simple procedure that can be completed in two visits to our office. First, the teeth are prepared by buffing the enamel and shaping it. This is done to allow for the thickness of the veneer to be accommodated over the tooth. An impression of the tooth is then taken and sent to a dental lab where your veneer is made. You are sent home with a temporary restoration over your prepared tooth. During your second visit, the temporary restoration is removed, the shade of your custom veneer is checked and then the veneer is permanently bonded to your tooth using dental bonding cement.
As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement. They are highly durable and will last for several years, giving you a beautiful, long-lasting smile.
If you wish to have a beautiful and attractive smile by hiding imperfections in your teeth, veneers could be the restoration of choice for you. To know if your smile can benefit from the use of veneers, please contact our office for a consultation. You can call us at (847) 469-4340.
